What will (You) do when Windows 10 expires?

While that is true, Mac has been completely stupefied and modern gnu+linux is unix compatible.
Yeah they stopped releasing the Darwin stuff regularly a while ago, first they stopped with ISOs and now they're pretty bad at even just the raw source code. There were some projects in the 00s to turn Darwin into a usable OS but they never got anywhere.

Isn't it based off of Darwin, which is based off of FreeBSD? I can recall that they pay a license to be considered genuine UNIX. I mean actual UNIX, derived from original AT&T code.
I can't say for certain since I frankly don't know shit about macOS' internals, but the FreeBSD stuff is limited to the userland components iirc. The kernel is Mach and not the FreeBSD one. In fact even early Windows NT used some BSD components (or reimplementations) for the networking stuff.

Edit: also legally speaking FreeBSD isn't UNIX either. I think they actually had to remove all of the AT&T code a long time ago. From my understanding, macOS is just a UNIX-like OS that Apple paid the money for so they could call it UNIX.
