And then they try to cover this up by using iconography (persecuting homosexuals and labeling them with the pink triangle) but protect their own (as you mentioned Ernst Rohm) because they're doing it behind closed doors. Nothing is off limits as long as they don't get caught doing it.

There was actually an internal feud within the party between the butch gays and the fem gays, the losers were arrested and sent to camps with a pink triangle symbol. Meanwhile those who accumulated enough power and support from their superiors remained unscathed.

Huh. I remember reading an interview from a close personal associate of Hitler's (Wilma Schaub, wife of his chief adjutant Julius Schaub) regarding his relations with women, and somehow the fact that his relationship with Geli could have been outright romantic did not actually cross my head. Looking back at it, I don't know how it didn't. I guess I just assumed that he wanted to be very protective of Geli, like a loving father, yet, here are some quotes from that interview:
