I had the exact same thought about ISIS 2.0.
Don't be so sure they learned, keep in mind that the CIA planned on toppling the ayotollahs by January 2004.

Unlike Iraq Iran seems to be more well knit together
They've been holding together despite being one of the most frequent targets for assasiantion by Isreal and USA and it also does matter they made their own MIC
Pair that with the terrain and population and it makes sense why war hawks have been second guessing an invasion this decade

Not even factoring in how Iran is using it's geographic position as leverage to get Russia and China as close to them as they can
