Case-to-case basis, I guess.
Depends on the type of individual you are. Some people are willing to kill themselves over it, others can live in the woods for over a decade and remain unbothered, most probably just feel a detachment or a lack of belonging in their peer group, and seeking refugee in online communities may or may not elevate those feelings, for some, might exacerbate it.

I know this is a joke response, but given that sexual intercourse (in some people's minds) is a form of "connection," other people can't give you something if you won't allow yourself to receive it, or if you're hardwired to not connect/deal with people in the same way as everybody else.

TL;DR People connect differently, or have an inability to connect at all, and sex is meaningless if it's not with someone you don't care for, or genuinely love.
