The reddit spacing

Introduction

One of the many nonsense buzzwords that was invented by 4chan.org. [1] The history is vague, but long story short, at some point people started calling out other people for making "reddit spacings". Seemingly innocent and fun but soon it turned out to be a very widespread and toxic trend. [2] In the usual 4chan fashion, good posts were being trashed on because the poster used the "reddit spacing". [3] [4] Nowadays the meme is still being used albeit not as often. It is also used in the soyosphere.

Both of the paradigms below relate to imageboards only, such as 4chan or soyjak.party

Paradigm I: Free Will

The paradigm assumes that the poster knows exactly how the post formatting works, what he wants to achieve and how to achieve it. This is the most commonly used set of rules when determining whether a post contains reddit spacing or not.
It works as follows:
The post contains reddit spacing if after each sentence the poster presses return twice.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

In feugiat congue dui eu consectetur.

Nullam eget mauris justo.
The post does not contain reddit spacing if after each sentence, the poster either does not press enter or presses enter only once.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
In feugiat congue dui eu consectetur.
Nullam eget mauris justo.

Paradigm II: Brain damage

This one is tricky. It originates from a schizophrenic poster from 4chan.org/g/ with whom I had the displeasure of interacting.
This is reddit spacing:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
In feugiat congue dui eu consectetur.
Nullam eget mauris justo.
This is not reddit spacing:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

In feugiat congue dui eu consectetur.

Nullam eget mauris justo.
The belief comes from the fact that on reddit you only need to press the return key once to get the double carriage return effect. It is not known why it works like that and frankly I don't give a shit.
Now according to the schizophrenic poster, reddit immigrants on 4cuck do not know how text formatting works on imageboards and since they are acustomed to the conventional reddit spacing, they want their post to cotain them.
But they only press "enter" once. They are too ignorant to realize their posts are not going to contain reddit spacings.

In the older days of 4chan (~2011), double carriage return was present in the vast majority of the posts. It slowly went out of fashion due to unknown causes but the schizo claims all the original 4channellers still use it. That is why [example 4] is not reddit spacing. The 4channers know what they're doing, they want to have reddit spacings and they press enter twice.

It's safe to say this paradigm should not be taken seriously although I find it to be really interesting.

Misconceptions

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. In feugiat congue dui eu consectetur. Nullam eget mauris justo. In feugiat, erat sit amet consectetur posuere, erat felis ullamcorper enim, interdum tincidunt purus ipsum id neque. Pellentesque et mattis sapien.

Nam pellentesque suscipit dapibus. Proin scelerisque purus est, sed fringilla est viverra ac. Nam faucibus leo eleifend purus congue, et pulvinar ex maximus.

This example does not cotain any reddit spacings. It simply consists of two paragraphs separated by a visual lack of text in one of the lines. The assumption that this post does in fact contain a reddit spacing is a very common misconception.
