Single espresso is twice as small and has half the grounds as a double espresso, and approximately half the caffeine as well

An espresso is a small shot of concentrated coffee, typically made with very finely ground coffee beans and quickly brewed with high pressure and hot water.

Also, an espresso is really bitter, so most people like to dilute it with water - this is called an "americano". If it's not water, it's a mix of water and milk - this is called a "latte". If you steam the milk so it foams up more, this is called a "capuccino". Add chocolate to a latte, you got a "mocha"
