Fuck. Don't care if he's a politician or not, he was still the president and he's still a father and a grandfather, I'm sorry for his family and his wife Jill. They've been married for nearly 50 years. (48 specifically.)

Dementia and alzheimer's disease doesn't outright kill the person, the person with it usually dies from complications as a result of pneumonia or other infections due to a weakened immune system. If the cancer is aggressive enough, that'll unfortunately kill him long before dementia will.

Somewhat related, but King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer nearly a year ago.
